At age 22 (after college) Chef Missy left the South and moved to New York City without her parent’s financial support so she called on her talent and passion for cooking to support herself. Missy scored a kitchen prep job at one of the most prestigious catering company’s in New York City, LaCarte and within several months was promoted to line cook and later sous chef working directly with the executive chef developing menus and recipes for Manhattan’s elite.
After La Carte, Chef Missy landed her second role in an off-broadway play and took a day job as Executive Chef at an upper-crusty, all-girls Manhattan preparatory school. Getting up at 5 AM and cooking until 2:30 pm and then racing across Manhattan to nightly rehearsals and performances in the theatre district was no easy task. But through her connections at the girls school she received the accolades, support and encouragement needed to strike out on her own with cheffing business, Consummate Caterers.
Being a true-blue southern gal, Chef Missy moved back to the South and ultimately dissolved Consummate Caterers. She spent the next 15 years studying French cuisine while cooking and entertaining extensively for family and friends. Turning southern ingredients and dishes into French inspired cuisine and her passion for entertaining gained her quite the chef/hostess reputation and she was often invited to chef and cater many events in private homes.
Chef Missy’s love of nourishing others led her to get a degree in holistic and integrative nutrition at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. Now as a nutritionist and private chef, she gained the attention of a retired heart surgeon in Atlanta. As his private chef she assisted him in recovering his health and losing 56 pounds in the process. Chef Missy decided to return to her cooking roots and accepted a professional chef position in Charleston, SC.
Chef Missy’s passion for both the South and French cuisine led her to create the French Magnolia Cooks – a French inspired southern savor food blog with special how-to video episodes.
EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS
Chef Missy received her degree in holistic and integrative nutrition at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. She is Board Certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and has obtained additional training and credentials in Immunology and Endocrinology from the Institute for the Brain Potential under the American Medical Association. She also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from Converse College (an all-womens college in Spartanburg, SC) and a conservatorial degree in acting from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. Chef Missy is the Founder-President of Conscious Nutrition and Living LLC and the creator of the French Magnolia Cooks, an interactive television show for people who love southern cuisine – southern style! Chef Missy is married to Thomas Fraley, a hospitality veteran with 26 years experience in service management. They reside in Blowing Rock, NC with their rescue dog, Abbey Road.
