Private Chef Charleston SC Experiences & Destination Private Dining
Private chef Charleston SC experiences by Emmy Award-winning Chef Missy Fraley bring elevated dining, thoughtful wine, polished service, and genuine hospitality directly to your table.
French Magnolia Cooks creates memorable private dining for intimate gatherings, celebrations, vacation stays, wedding weekends, chef’s tables, and wine dinners throughout Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Now accepting engagements in Downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Kiawah Island, and Folly Beach, while continuing to serve select destination markets throughout Western North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
Private Dining Designed Around You
This is not catering in the traditional sense, and it isn’t built for volume.
Each French Magnolia experience is chef-led and thoughtfully composed around the occasion—from an intimate dinner at home or a vacation gathering in Charleston to a chef’s table, wine dinner, milestone celebration, or wedding weekend.
Seasonally inspired cuisine, attentive service, curated wine pairings, and a beautifully prepared table come together to make the evening feel effortless for you and memorable for your guests.
At a French Magnolia table, refinement never needs to feel formal. The linens, tableware, flowers, wine, food, pacing, and service all have a purpose—but the experience itself should simply feel warm, generous, and natural.
Private Chef Experiences in Charleston & the Lowcountry
Charleston is particularly suited to the way we believe people should gather: exceptional food, thoughtful wine, beautiful surroundings, and enough time around the table to actually enjoy one another.
French Magnolia creates private chef experiences in homes, vacation properties, and private settings throughout Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Kiawah Island, and Folly Beach.
From intimate dinner parties and vacation gatherings to anniversaries, wedding weekends, bachelorette dinners, and celebrations, we create the culinary experience around your occasion, your setting, and the people at your table.
Whether Charleston is home or you’re gathering here for a few extraordinary days, we bring the restaurant experience to you.
Private Chef & Wine Dining Experiences in Charleston
For us, wine isn’t an addition to dinner. It’s part of the experience.
French Magnolia brings together Chef Missy Fraley’s cuisine with Thomas Fraley’s wine and hospitality experience to create private dinners where the food, wine, service, and conversation are designed around one another.
From an intimate chef’s table with thoughtfully selected French wines to an evening built around Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne, or another region you love, we create an experience that is as much about discovering wine as enjoying exceptional food.
Thomas guides the wine conversation throughout the evening—sharing the places, producers, traditions, and stories behind what’s being poured—while Chef Missy’s courses bring those wines to life at the table.
The experience is engaging rather than formal, educational without becoming a class, and designed for people who simply enjoy discovering great food and wine together.
Perfect for anniversaries, birthdays, collectors, couples traveling together, groups of friends, corporate entertaining, or simply an extraordinary evening around the table.

What the Evening Looks Like
French Magnolia transforms your home, vacation property, or private setting into a fully realized dining experience.
From the table setting to the final course, we take care of the details that allow you to experience the evening alongside your guests rather than manage it from behind the scenes.
Our signature plate-up experiences can include multiple chef-prepared courses, cotton table linens, chargers, china, stemware, champagne coupes, flatware, complete table service, setup, and breakdown.
Enhancements such as caviar, foie gras, Premier Cru wines, Champagne, and other seasonal luxuries can be incorporated into the evening.
From a home in Downtown Charleston to a vacation property on Kiawah or Isle of Palms, you provide the gathering place. We create the experience around it.

Celebrate Bachelorettes
Charleston is made for celebrating with friends. We think the best version of that celebration sometimes happens around your own table.
A French Magnolia bachelorette luncheon or dinner is refined, joyful, and beautifully complete—without requiring your group to navigate reservations, crowded dining rooms, or leave the place you’ve gathered.
Our signature experience can include a beautifully prepared French Magnolia table, florals, three curated courses, French wine pairings, interactive wine conversation with Thomas, service, setup, and breakdown.
Perfect for intimate bachelorette groups staying in Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Kiawah Island, or Folly Beach.
You bring the people. We’ll take care of the table.

Gather Around the Table
Not every memorable gathering needs to be formal.
From rehearsal dinners and family reunions to vacation dinners and a table full of friends, our family-style experiences are designed to be generous, relaxed, and joyful.
Menus balance comfort with refinement and are created around the group, the season, and the occasion.
Unlike our fully inclusive plate-up experiences, family-style gatherings are semi-inclusive, allowing greater flexibility while preserving the hospitality and attention to detail that define French Magnolia.
The purpose remains the same: give everyone—including the host—the opportunity to actually enjoy being together.

Bringing Your Vision to the Table
Every French Magnolia experience begins with listening.
As Executive Chef and founder of French Magnolia Cooks, Chef Missy Fraley designs each gathering with a deep respect for the people around the table. More than twenty-five years across the culinary, hospitality, and design worlds inform her work, along with the experience of creating more than 1,250 private tables and writing, producing, and hosting the three-time Emmy Award-winning PBS series French Magnolia Cooks.
Thomas brings decades of restaurant, wine, and hospitality experience to the table, creating pairings and conversations that make wine approachable, interesting, and part of the evening rather than an accessory to it.
Together, we believe private dining is a form of live hospitality.
It requires preparation, judgment, adaptability, and the ability to know when to step forward—and when to disappear into the background.
When it’s done well, the host gets to become a guest at their own table.
What’s Included in a Private Chef Experience
Every experience is built around the gathering, but our signature private dining is intentionally comprehensive.
Depending on the experience, we can provide the menu, ingredients, preparation, linens, china, flatware, stemware, florals, candles, table setting, service, cleanup, and curated wine pairings.
Chef’s tables and wine-forward dinners are particular specialties. These evenings can include conversation about ingredients, techniques, wines, regions, and traditions without turning dinner into a lecture or performance.
The objective isn’t simply to serve an excellent meal.
It’s to create an evening worth remembering.
Not Catering — By Design
French Magnolia isn’t a traditional catering company.
We don’t specialize in drop-off food, assembly-line service, or high-volume events. We specialize in creating an experience for a particular group of people, in a particular place, for a particular reason.
The menu is considered. The wine is considered. The table is considered. The pacing of the evening is considered.
Our role is to hold all of those pieces together so you don’t have to.
When the evening is over, the kitchen is clean, the table has been cared for, and hopefully you’re still sitting with the people you wanted to spend the evening with.
A Few Things People Ask Us
People often reach out with similar questions when they’re thinking about a private chef.
Here are a few of the ones we hear most.
Where do you offer private chef services?
French Magnolia is now accepting private chef engagements throughout Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry, including Downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Kiawah Island, and Folly Beach.
We also continue to serve select destinations throughout Western North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, including Highlands, Cashiers, Banner Elk, Blowing Rock, Nashville, Knoxville, Roanoke, and Charlottesville.
Travel beyond these areas may be considered for the right experience.
Can you cook at our Charleston vacation rental or beach house?
Yes. Vacation-home dining is an excellent fit for the French Magnolia experience. We can create private dinners, chef’s tables, wine dinners, bachelorette experiences, family gatherings, and special-occasion meals in suitable private homes and vacation properties throughout Charleston, Lowcountry and other select destinations.
We’ll discuss the property and available kitchen facilities during planning so we can prepare appropriately.
What does a private chef do?
A private chef creates a personalized dining experience in your home or private setting. That usually includes menu planning, ingredient sourcing, cooking on-site, and leaving the kitchen clean at the end of the evening. The focus is on hospitality and care, not volume or speed.
How is a private chef different from catering?
Catering is designed to feed many people efficiently. Private chef work is designed to serve a specific group thoughtfully.
With a private chef, the menu is built around you, the food is prepared on-site, and the experience is paced like a meal, not a service line. It’s more personal, more flexible, and more intentional.
Do you cook in our home?
Yes. Most private chef experiences take place in the host’s home or private venue. We work with what’s available, plan ahead, and bring what’s needed to make the evening feel seamless.
What kinds of events are a good fit for your company?
We’re best suited for private dinners, chef’s table experiences, small celebrations, and boutique weddings. The common thread is that the gathering is intentional and hospitality-forward.
If the goal is volume or speed, we’re probably not the right fit. If the goal is a memorable experience around the table, we’re aligned.
Do you offer private chef services for weddings?
Yes, for select boutique and destination weddings.
This typically looks like rehearsal dinners, welcome dinners, or intimate wedding meals where the food and experience are meant to feel personal rather than catered. We take on a limited number of these each year.
How many guests can a private chef serve?
That depends on the type of experience and the space. Most private chef dinners are designed for smaller groups (10-24), where pacing and connection matter. We’ll talk through guest count early to make sure expectations are aligned.
Do you accommodate dietary preferences or restrictions?
Yes. Menus are planned in advance with dietary needs, allergies, and preferences in mind. The goal is for every guest at the table to feel cared for without drawing attention to accommodations.
How far in advance should we book a private chef?
Availability varies by season, but reaching out early is always helpful — especially for weekends and special occasions. We take on a limited number of engagements so each one gets the attention it deserves.
What does working together usually start with?
It starts with a conversation. We’ll talk about the gathering, the setting, and what you want the experience to feel like. From there, we’ll decide together whether it’s a good fit before moving forward.
Is this a good fit if we’re “just looking for food”?
Probably not.
Our work is about the experience as a whole — the pacing, the table, the flow of the evening. If that matters to you, we’re a good match. If you’re simply looking to have food dropped off, there are better options.
We recently had Chef Missy and her fabulous husband Thomas create a Chef's Table dinner party for my 50th birthday celebration with an intimate group of my girlfriends. What a treat to sit down to the most beautifully set table with flowers, candles and china. We loved learning about each wine from Thomas. His selections were perfectly paired to each course. Chef Missy prepared the most exquisite meal that my guests are still talking about! They were professional in their interactions before and during the evening and we all found them delightful to be with! The entire experience exceeded our expectations!

We did the chef's table experience at our home and Chef Missy made everything special, delicious, and best of all, I didn't have to lift a finger. Every course and wine pairing was exquisite. It was very educational and a dinner we will be talking about for years to come. Can't wait to do it again some time!
– Allie Turner
Chef Missy traveled to Blowing Rock, NC, to put on a fabulous brunch for my mother-in-law’s birthday. The food was outstanding, presentation just beautiful and learning all about champagne from her husband, Thomas Fraley, was an added bonus. My husband and I are looking forward to working with Chef Missy again in the future. She’s just the best!
– Abbey Sullivan
We had such an amazing night with Chef Missy and Thomas!! The food, the wine, the ambiance, and the laughter all made for an unforgettable experience! I can not recommend them enough!
– Christina Bare
I cant put into words how blessed our group was by Missy and Thomas. Our experience was so, so much more than food. They created an experience our group was changed by, and will never forget!
