Intimate Wedding Receptions & Rehearsal Dinners

Charleston wedding catering can be more personal. French Magnolia creates chef-driven dining for intimate receptions, rehearsal dinners, welcome dinners, and select wedding weekends—bringing together thoughtful cuisine, wine, service, and genuine hospitality.

For couples planning a more personal kind of wedding, French Magnolia creates dining experiences where the table becomes part of the celebration itself. From a private estate or vacation property to a meaningful Charleston wedding venue, we bring together the food, wine, table, and service around the people you’ve chosen to gather.

A More Personal Way to Celebrate

Not every wedding is meant to feel large. And not every couple looking for wedding catering is looking for a conventional catered event.

Some celebrations call for something more personal.

An intimate wedding reception creates room for the day to remain centered on the people who are actually there. The meal can unfold naturally. Guests can settle into conversation. The table can become part of the memory rather than simply another item on the wedding timeline.

French Magnolia is designed for exactly that kind of gathering.

We create intimate wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, welcome dinners, and wedding-weekend dining for couples who want their celebration to feel thoughtful, beautiful, and genuinely hosted.

Intimate Wedding Reception Dining

A meaningful wedding reception doesn’t need hundreds of guests to feel extraordinary. In many cases, the smaller the guest list, the more every detail matters.

French Magnolia creates wedding dining where the table is not an afterthought—it is part of the occasion itself.

Chef Missy Fraley develops the menu around the season, setting, and people gathered. Thomas Fraley brings wine, service, and hospitality alongside it, helping shape an evening that feels refined without becoming formal.

Depending on the celebration, a French Magnolia wedding experience can include multiple chef-prepared courses, curated wine pairings, table florals, linens, china, stemware, champagne coupes, flatware, full table service, setup, and breakdown.

Our intimate seated wedding experiences are designed primarily for gatherings of 10 to 48 guests.

Whether you’re celebrating in a Charleston private home, Lowcountry estate, garden, vacation property, or select wedding venue, the objective remains the same:

Create a table worthy of the people gathered around it.

Rehearsal Dinners & Welcome Dinners

The rehearsal dinner is not simply the meal before the wedding. For many couples, it becomes one of the most personal gatherings of the entire weekend.

It’s where families begin to relax together. Guests arrive. Introductions become conversations. And after months of planning, the wedding weekend finally begins to feel real.

We approach rehearsal dinners and welcome dinners with the same care we bring to the reception itself.

The menu, wine, table, pacing, and service are considered together so the evening feels gracious and well hosted rather than programmed. Whether the gathering is elegant or relaxed, plated or family-style, the goal is to give everyone—including the couple and their families—the opportunity to actually enjoy being together.

Rehearsal dinners and welcome dinners may be booked as part of a larger French Magnolia wedding weekend or considered as individual engagements.

From Wedding Catering to a Complete Dining Experience

Many couples begin by searching for a wedding caterer because catering is the familiar name for what happens after the ceremony.

French Magnolia can provide full-service wedding dining, but our approach is intentionally more personal than conventional high-volume catering.

We don’t begin with a banquet formula and fit your wedding into it. We begin with the people, place, occasion, and kind of evening you want to create.

The cuisine is considered. The wine is considered. The table is considered. The pacing and service are considered.

Together, those pieces create something larger than a catered meal:

a complete hospitality experience.

Designed for Intimate Charleston & Lowcountry Weddings

French Magnolia is particularly well suited to the kinds of intimate weddings found throughout Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry—private homes, historic properties, gardens, estates, destination houses, and select venues where the setting itself becomes part of the experience.

We currently accept select wedding and rehearsal-dinner engagements throughout Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Kiawah Island, and Folly Beach, while continuing to consider destination weddings in our established markets throughout the Southeast.

If you’ve already selected your wedding venue, we’ll discuss the kitchen, service areas, guest count, timeline, and logistics with you during planning to determine whether the property is a good fit for the French Magnolia experience.

If you’re still choosing a venue, consider more than how it photographs. Consider how it hosts: how guests will gather, how dinner will flow, and whether the setting supports the kind of evening you actually want to create.

Working With Your Wedding Planner

When a wedding planner is involved, we work collaboratively with them to make the dining experience part of the larger rhythm of the day.

A good planner protects the timeline and coordinates the many moving pieces surrounding a wedding. Our responsibility is to bring the same steadiness to the table.

The transition from ceremony to cocktails matters. Dinner timing matters. Wine and service matter. Communication between the kitchen, planner, venue, and service team matters.

We work particularly well with planners, venue teams, and event designers who value clear communication and hospitality that feels seamless rather than performative.

And when a planner isn’t involved, we bring the same professionalism to our portion of the celebration so the dining experience remains organized, calm, and well led.

Our work is especially suited for gatherings where the guest list is intentional and the table plays a central role in the experience.

Is French Magnolia Right for Your Wedding?

We’re especially well suited for couples who want something more personal than a traditional banquet-style reception.

You may be a particularly good fit if you want chef-driven cuisine rather than standardized event food; an intentional guest list rather than a high-volume event; thoughtful wine and genuine table service; a private home, estate, vacation property, or intimate venue; and a celebration that feels refined without becoming stiff or overproduced.

The smaller the gathering, the less there is to hide behind.

We think that’s part of what makes intimate weddings so beautiful.

The food matters. The wine matters. The table matters. The service matters.

But ultimately, the people matter most.

A Few Things Couples Ask Us

A few questions tend to come up as couples begin thinking through an intimate wedding reception or rehearsal dinner.  These are some of the ones we hear most often.

What size weddings are the best fit for French Magnolia?

French Magnolia is best suited for intimate weddings where the experience around the table is an important part of the celebration. Our seated wedding receptions are typically designed for 10 to 48 guests, allowing us to give greater attention to the cuisine, wine, table, service, and overall guest experience.

Do you offer wedding catering in Charleston?

Yes. French Magnolia offers intimate wedding catering and chef-driven wedding dining throughout Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry, including Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, Kiawah Island, and Folly Beach. We specialize in smaller celebrations where thoughtful food, wine, service, and hospitality can be brought together as a complete experience.

What's the difference between French Magnolia and a traditional wedding caterer?

French Magnolia is intentionally different from a traditional high-volume wedding caterer. Rather than beginning with standardized packages or banquet-style service, we build the dining experience around your celebration, setting, guest list, and the way you want the evening to feel.

Depending on the wedding, that can include chef-prepared courses, wine pairings, table settings, florals, linens, china, stemware, service, setup, and breakdown. The goal isn’t simply to cater the meal. It’s to create and care for the experience around the table.

Do you work with wedding planners?

Yes. We work collaboratively with wedding planners, event designers, venue teams, and other professionals involved in the celebration. Clear communication between the planner, venue, kitchen, and service team helps the entire day flow more naturally.

We also work directly with couples who are planning more independently and can help determine what we need from the venue or property to execute the dining experience well.

Can you cater a wedding at a Charleston vacation home or private estate?

Yes. Private homes, estates, gardens, and suitable vacation properties can be especially well suited to the French Magnolia experience. We can create intimate wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, welcome dinners, and other wedding-weekend gatherings at private properties throughout Charleston and the Lowcountry.

During planning, we’ll discuss the property, kitchen facilities, service areas, guest count, and other logistics to make sure the setting can support the experience you have in mind.

Can we hire you just for our rehearsal dinner or welcome dinner?

Absolutely. Rehearsal dinners and welcome dinners can be booked independently of the wedding reception.

In fact, these gatherings are often particularly well suited to French Magnolia because they give families and friends time to settle in, share a thoughtful meal, enjoy wine and conversation, and begin the wedding weekend together without the larger schedule of the wedding day itself.

Do you provide wine for wedding dinners?

Yes. Wine can be an integral part of a French Magnolia wedding dinner. Thomas can work with the menu and the couple’s preferences to develop thoughtful wine pairings, from Champagne for the celebration to wines selected specifically for individual courses.

For couples who want wine to play a larger role in the evening, we can also create a more wine-forward experience with conversation about the regions, producers, traditions, and stories behind what’s being poured.

What is included in an intimate wedding reception?

Every wedding is different, so the details are developed around the celebration. Depending on the experience, French Magnolia can provide the menu, ingredients and preparation, multiple chef-prepared courses, curated wine pairings, linens, china, flatware, stemware, champagne coupes, table florals, service, setup, cleanup, and breakdown.

We’ll determine what is appropriate during planning based on your guest count, venue or property, wedding style, and the experience you want to create.

How far in advance should we inquire?

We recommend reaching out as soon as you have a wedding date and general location, particularly for spring, summer, fall, holiday weekends, and popular Charleston wedding dates. Because French Magnolia accepts a limited number of intimate weddings and private events, availability can vary considerably by date.

You don’t need to have every detail decided before contacting us. A date, approximate guest count, location, and general idea of what you’re planning are enough to begin the conversation.

    How do we start?

Start by submitting a wedding inquiry with your date, approximate guest count, location, and any details you already know about your venue, planner, or celebration.

From there, we’ll learn more about what you’re envisioning, determine whether the date and setting are a good fit, and begin shaping the dining experience around your wedding.

We recently had Chef Missy and her fabulous husband Thomas create a Chef's Table dinner party for my 50th birthday celebration with an intimate group of my girlfriends. What a treat to sit down to the most beautifully set table with flowers, candles and china. We loved learning about each wine from Thomas. His selections were perfectly paired to each course. Chef Missy prepared the most exquisite meal that my guests are still talking about! They were professional in their interactions before and during the evening and we all found them delightful to be with! The entire experience exceeded our expectations!

We did the chef's table experience at our home and Chef Missy made everything special, delicious, and best of all, I didn't have to lift a finger. Every course and wine pairing was exquisite. It was very educational and a dinner we will be talking about for years to come. Can't wait to do it again some time!

Chef Missy traveled to Blowing Rock, NC, to put on a fabulous brunch for my mother-in-law’s birthday. The food was outstanding, presentation just beautiful and learning all about champagne from her husband, Thomas Fraley, was an added bonus. My husband and I are looking forward to working with Chef Missy again in the future. She’s just the best!
